Honestly, the Giant-Man statue sculpted by Jason Smith and released by Bowen Design in 2007 (with an edition size of 600 samples), is one of the piece I like less in the vast catalogue of the American Company. Probably, this is due to the my own lack of fondness for the character and, above all, the enormous size of the figure, more similar to a 1:4 statue than the usual 1:6 scale of Bowen pieces. Of course, the size is congruent with the main feature of the hero and allows to correctly display him together with all other statues. Nevertheless, in my opinion, many relevant characteristics of Bowen style (the simplicity of design and sculptural lines, as well as the typical museum pose) are not appropriate to such a larger scale and the overall impact of the figure loses its appeal. In addition, the costume of the character has a very retro 60's style and certainly is not characterized by a great aesthetics, so that the piece somehow looks like a huge doll! On the other hand, the statue (as usual for Bowen pieces) is very faithful to the original Comics: Hank Pym stays erect in a frontal pose and exhibits an imposic physique, with a huge rib cage, clenched fists and well defined muscles on chest and abdomen. The arms are stretched downward and open, as to inflate the powerful biceps, while the legs are slightly apart and well rested on a simple, thin (but functional) base. The suit has a dominant bright red color, with a dark blue on two "V-shaped" strips on front and back and on both the gloves and boots, refined with a denticular edge. The mask leaves uncovered the blue eyes and the central part of the face, while three white strips are located at the ears level and two long curved (and fragile!) antennas are centered on the forehead. A silver belt embellishes the figure at waistline and many dark shades point out any muscle contour. As said, this piece is not among my favorites, but it completes the wondeful set of statues devoted to Hank Pym (with Ant-Man, Yellow Jacket and the two alternative vaiants of Goliath): then, it could not miss in my Marvel statues collection!
